Privacy policy
Your privacy matters to me. I run this website and shop so that people can view and buy my photography and see my work. To do that, a small amount of information has to be collected along the way. This policy explains what that information is, how it’s used, and what your rights are.
The shop runs on Shopify, which provides the technology that allows orders, payments and deliveries to happen without either of us having to write code at 2am.
By using this website, you agree to the way information is handled as described below.
What information I collect
When you browse the site or place an order, a few bits of information may be collected.
Things you give directly
- your name
- email address
- billing and delivery address
- phone number (sometimes used by couriers)
- any messages you send when you contact me
Order details
- what you purchased
- payment confirmation
- delivery information
Your payment details are handled securely through Shopify and payment providers. I don’t see or store your full card details.
Things collected automatically
When you visit the site, some technical information is automatically collected, such as:
- your IP address
- browser and device type
- which pages you look at
- how you move around the site
This helps the website work properly and helps me understand which photographs people are interested in (for example, so I know whether anyone besides my mum is looking at them).
Where this information comes from
Information may come from:
- you, when you place an order or contact me
- your browser when you visit the site
- Shopify and services that help run the store (payments, shipping, analytics, etc.)
How your information is used
Your information is mainly used for very practical reasons:
To process orders
- take payment
- arrange delivery
- send order confirmations
- deal with returns or questions
To run and improve the website
- make sure the site works properly
- understand which pages are popular
- improve the shop and browsing experience
To communicate with you
- reply to messages or questions
- send order updates
Occasionally for marketing
If you sign up to updates, you may receive occasional emails about new work, exhibitions or prints. You can unsubscribe at any time.
No spam. I promise.
For security and legal reasons
Sometimes information may be used to prevent fraud, protect the site, or comply with legal requirements.
Who your information is shared with
To run the shop, some information has to be shared with services that help things work.
These may include:
- Shopify (the platform hosting the shop)
- payment providers
- delivery companies
- website hosting or analytics services
These services only receive the information needed to do their job.
Your information is not sold to random marketing companies.
Shopify
Because the shop is powered by Shopify, information submitted through the website may also be processed by Shopify in order to run the store and improve its services.
You can read Shopify’s own privacy information on their website if you'd like the full details.
Cookies
Like most websites, this one uses cookies. These are small files stored on your device that help the website function properly.
Cookies help with things like:
- remembering items in your cart
- understanding how people use the site
- improving performance
You can control cookies through your browser settings if you prefer.
Links to other websites
Sometimes the site may link to other websites (for example social media or partners). If you follow those links, their privacy policies apply, not this one.
Children’s privacy
This website isn’t intended for children, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the relevant age.
If you think a child has provided personal information through the site, please get in touch and I’ll remove it.
Security and data retention
Reasonable steps are taken to protect your information, but no internet system is ever completely bulletproof.
Information is only kept for as long as needed to:
- complete orders
- meet legal or accounting requirements
- manage the website and business
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including the UK and EU), you may have the right to:
- request a copy of the information held about you
- ask for incorrect information to be corrected
- request deletion of your information
- restrict or object to certain uses of your data
- withdraw consent for marketing communications
If you’d like to exercise any of these rights, just contact me.
Complaints
If you have concerns about how your information is handled, please get in touch first and I’ll do my best to resolve it.
You also have the right to contact your local data protection authority if needed.
Changes to this policy
This policy may occasionally be updated if the website, services or legal requirements change.
When that happens, the updated version will appear here with a new date.
