Trackers & Breakbeats: Celebrating Brain Records’ Underground Revolution

Led and curated for Rendezvous Projects

An exhibition reframing the origins of UK jungle through early digital production and DIY culture, foregrounding Brain Records and the inventive use of 8-bit technology in shaping a globally influential sound.

Trackers and Breakbeats explored Brain Records and Bizzy B through the lens of constraint-led creativity: the Commodore Amiga, OctaMED tracker software, and a DIY approach to production and distribution.  The exhibition linked music technology, visual culture and social history through original equipment, key releases, flyers, photography and oral history extracts.

Outcomes

  • Exhibition of original production equipment and archival material
  • Reframed mainstream narratives of jungle and drum & bass
  • Positioned early digital tools within broader cultural history
  • Foregrounded underrepresented contributors to UK electronic music
  • Masterclass in beat-making led by Bizzy B, Dlux and Equinox
