About the project

Art gallery with framed photographs on white walls.

Background

A National Portrait Gallery commission documenting community sports groups across the five Olympic boroughs in the lead-up to the London 2012 Games. Combining portrait photography with oral histories, the project focused on volunteers and participants whose work sustains local sport.

Outcomes

The photographs and interviews formed part of a year-long digital project and were later exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery during Road to 2012: Aiming High. The work highlighted the breadth of grassroots sporting activity across East London.
