Mega Mega: Romford’s Suburban Sound Revolution

Curated by Katherine Green in partnership with Havering London

A new exhibition and live programme in development, exploring Romford’s role in UK electronic music and club culture between 1989 and 1999

The project brings together oral histories, archive material and new commissions to trace the networks of record shops, pirate radio and youth-led scenes that shaped the period.

The exhibition is conceived as an immersive environment, foregrounding lived experience, sound and atmosphere.

New commissions include a work by Rosie Strickland, Bosh: a modified VW Golf transformed into a “micro-club” listening space, combining sound installation, archive references and audience participation to evoke the sensory experience of travelling to and from raves, while inviting visitors to contribute their own memories.
