Background

Commissioned by The Lowry, this portrait series documents members of its audience community. Participants were photographed in their homes but lit as if on stage, reversing the traditional relationship between performer and spectator.

Outcomes

The project produced a new body of portraits exploring cultural participation and audience identity. The work was exhibited at The Lowry in 2013 and foregrounded the diverse audiences created through the venue’s £5 ticket scheme.
